The Center for Immigration Services & Support (ISS) in consultation with our internal and external immigration counsel has prepared the following travel advisory for Legal Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders).

Important Travel Advisory:

  • DISCLAIMER – Consult Legal Counsel: This information is for guidance and awareness only and does not constitute legal advice. Legal Permanent Residents are strongly encouraged to consult with their own immigration attorney before any international travel, regardless of their country of citizenship. ISS can provide contact information for local legal counsel, but cannot provide legal advice. (See linked document: “Hiring an Immigration Attorney“)
  • High-Risk Countries: Legal Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) from the following countries should strongly reconsider any non-emergent travel at this time: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
  • Countries with Increased Travel Scrutiny: We suggest increased caution for Legal Permanent Residents from the following countries: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gambia, Haiti, Kitts and Nevis, Laos, Liberia, Lucia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Myanmar, Pakistan, Republic of Congo, Russia, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Turkmenistan, Vanuatu,  and Zimbabwe.
  • Other Precautions:
    • We’re advising non-citizens to review social media and electronic devices for possible review at ports of entry.  (See linked flyer: “Electronic Device Searches at Port of Entry.“)
    • For employees, you may be able to borrow a loaner laptop or other electronic devices from the BRIDGE (Information Systems Service Desk) to help protect the privacy and security of University data and other information while traveling. Contact the BRIDGE for more information: https://is.wfu.edu/service-desk/
    • Recent actions by the federal government, and media reports indicate that non-citizens who participate in protests and demonstrations could be subject to increased scrutiny by immigration enforcement. Although it is a personal decision, individuals may want to consider avoiding protests and demonstrations at this time.
  • University Sponsored Travel:
    • If your international travel is university-sponsored/funded in any way, then you are also required to complete the International Travel Forms process.

Thank you, please contact iss@wfu.edu if you have any additional questions.
